toothless oversight at the fec

Bloomberg Businessweek includes an article in their May 7 – 13, 2012 issue about the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Entitled in the print edition: The Toothless Agency Overseeing the Election, the article (click here to see a similar article posted before the print edition) outlines the lack of leadership on the FEC’s six person board. Five of the members are serving even while their terms have expired, because no new commissioner has been appointed to replace them. Since revamping the magazine last year, each small article concludes with a “bottom line” explaining the importance of the article. The article concludes, “Since 2008 the FEC has deadlocked 34 times over whether to investigate political campaigns for breaking election laws.”
